Armorel’s World of Fable

April 23rd, 2012

Armorel's World.

Amorels World of Fable

I have been Sadly neglecting my Blog, but now I intend to get back in the groove.

At the Side of the Page is a Blog roll with other peoples Blogs. One of them is Amorel’s World.

I had the great Pleasure of meeting this talented young lady when she came to help out with the Fairy Films I was working on with the Chagford film makers Group. She brought to life the Sketches Alan Lee had done for the Ogres fire Place,In the story Peerie Fool( the figures have a very Golum look to them ). She was so pleased to get to meet one of her Favorite artists.

The fire place even contained a baby unicorn roasting on a spit ( just so you would know just how bad the Ogre was ) Here is a picture with Alan Lee & the Films Director Elizabeth Jane Baldry infront of the fire place.

She brought her friend Kim with her to assist her and before you knew it they were so enthusiastic that they were in fairy costumes and appearing in the film them selves, as well as rolling up their sleeves  and  helping to do the make up for vast numbers of children.

Being Water nymphs

We made the time to have a look at each other art work, and I was very impressed with what she showed me & have tried to follow what she has been doing since.

Her Fables are all created individually as each one emerges with it’s own personality,Please go to her site & have a browse around . Her own words are far better at telling you what she does & how she does it.

Fables

She dose exhibit at shows in England ,check her listings & if you can go and meet some fables in person I think you would agree they really are works of Art with heart.

Here are my most recent pictures .

First my Sons , Having done the self portraits the boys were happy to let me have a go at their profiles.

Stefan Cole

Sabastion Cole.

I was pleased my boys let me draw them it helped that they thought that they looked like Roman Coins.

I also Did a similar one but softer of a lovely young Lady from France. She is the Cousin of my dear friend Claire Hauville -Singh, and is visiting Malaysia for the first time , She came to a make over session I was doing with a professional photographer & very kindly posed for me.So there will probably be more pictures of this pretty lady in the future.

Mathilde Piron.

Here she is Again with Butterflies in her Hair.

This is a Mother & son Portrait I have drawn both Pamela & Kai before but never together. I feel that the tenderness is obvious in this drawing.

I created this very large pen & ink Drawing for my son in the Style of my Grand mothers 1920,s work as I know he is very fond of it . As he is a Diver I have made his Dreams of Fish & Mermaids good & bad.

Stefan,s Dreams

And Finaly one that has an added colour with Red .

Red Wine.

In my next post I will  see if I can put some of my latest experiments with the artwork spilling over onto the mounts to give my pictures another dimension . This picture is one I have plans for with a metallic Mount of Grape vines.I am enjoying my self very much with my artwork & hope you enjoy  it too.

A Long Standing Love of Black.

October 8th, 2011

When I was a youngster I only liked to work in pen and ink and very rarely used colour at all.

I am about 18 in this photograph.

I felt safe in Monotones.I only wore Black clothes and felt much more comfortable that way. It took me along time to get to the bright colourful work I do now.

But there is a special place in my heart  for Black and White, My Grandmother’s Ink illustrations inspired me and I found my style to be close to her earlier work. Here is one of my favorites that she did.

Sea Hawks by Elizabeth Cochrane my Granny.

So this time I am going to share some of my recent Black and White art work with you.

While we traveled around the world before settling in Malaysia I took every opportunity to go snorkeling. It is something I love and while looking at all the amazing shapes and patterns under the water I would try to memorise them to draw when I returned to the shore.

Anilao in the Philippians.

I added my version of a mermaid , Big eyes to cope with the dark webbed hands for swimming, sharp teeth for tearing fish & claws for catching them. Probably not very romantic.

What is Romantic is the portrait I did for my eldest son of his lady.

He is a diver & so is she so it was only right for her to be under the water.

This naughty mermaid was inspired by a dive trip I took my Children on in Hawaii, We did not see mermaids but I am sure they were just shy that day .I used pearl nailvarnish on the pearl in her hair & hands so they shimmer.

Audrey Hepburn

I like to make Sketches of some of Hollywood’s leading Ladies

50's Starlet

And most importantly my friends.

Lynn

Gabrielle

I feel this one has a bit of  Twilight about it,  little girl lost in a big Dark Forest. Who knows what is lurking in the trees?

The picture up next is of the lovely Jade and her Mother Claire , They have so kindly modeled for me, It is pretty difficult to get people who will let you photograph them to use as Models, but these girls are wonderful. Thank you !

Jade and Claire away with the Fairies

I had done an Aubrey Beardsly Inspired profile of Claire and thought it would be rather cool to match it up with one of my self .

Martha Stewart’s Hand Made Holiday Crafts – Published by Potter Craft

We are now well into September and lot’s of holidays are on the way!

Yay, I love holidays, they give me the excuse to get crafty, and I have just found a book that I would very much like to recommend:- Martha Stewarts Hand Made Holiday Crafts.

I found this book to be full of beautiful idea’s for each and every holiday. New Years, Valentines Day, Easter, Mothers and Fathers days, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanks Giving, Hanukkah and Christmas.

Now being an expat myself I know many people who like me miss being able to get decorations and gifts for many of our traditional holidays.

The ideas are nice and classy and the photographs through out the book are lovely.

I know my Daughter would be excited by the Halloween Crafts and Pumpkin carving ideas.

My cat Georgie has already put in an order for the cat nip Valentine Hearts although he also fancies the pom pom bunnies.

I defy you to look through this great book and not want to have a go at one of the step by step projects. Many of the ideas would work perfectly for a birthday party ,wedding ,anniversary etc…
